Cava Grande del Cassibile River (a Natural Reserve since 1990), is one of the largest and most spectacular of the Sicilian canyon. The river Cassibile, or Kacyparis as it was called in ancient Greek, runs through the reserve and over the millennia it has created a series of deep canyons stretching for more than 10 kilometres. The reserve is characterized by archaeological areas, water mills, mule tracks, rocky stairways and in the valley, wonderful ponds. A naturalistic tour guide will lead you through the Canyon and to the pond known locally as "Uruvu tunnu". You will cross a dirt road too, the so-called "Charleston", from the name of the aircraft carrier that, according to the project of the late 60's, had to be transformed into a luxurious floating hotel moored at the sea of Fontane Bianche - Ognina.
